So often we are told don’t quit. Stay the course and push through it. BUT what if quitting is valid and the best option? What if quitting that thing you are doing right now is the path to happiness, success, your future, and all the possibilities?
What then?
How do you determine if that is so?
At times life, relationships and business can be tough – like slogging through quicksand – and at others, it’s a dream come true.
When it’s tough, it can be tempting to give up. When life becomes challenging, our first inclination may be to run away, throw in the towel and declare it over – rather than work through the difficult situation.
BUT wait! When you’re feeling there is no other way, before you do anything else, seek an impartial and outcome-based perspective.
And use TAC to determine if quitting is, in fact, the best solution. I use TAC all the time… and let me tell you it has saved my bacon many times. TAC provides clarity, and has allowed me to grow exponentially and serve those I am intended to.
Turn your eyes inward and take stock of where you’ve been, where you are, and where you want to be. Is there a gap? A big space between where you are, and where you want to be. If you discover a gap, hallelujah! It means you’re aware.
Determine if you have tried every possible way to make it work.
Accept and Acknowledge that you don’t have to go through the gap alone, nor should you. Build a tribe. The benefits of a tribe are support, feedback, accountability, and results. The interesting thing is that as you climb, you’ll inspire others, and when you reach your goals, you have others to celebrate with.
Equally important is Access. Have you made every possible attempt to gain access to the tools, resources and knowledge needed to repair, correct or manage the challenge and create a positive outcome? As we all know relationships, at times, can be difficult and tumultuous. They are not always rosy, no matter the type; they take work and dedication. There are times in both our personal and professional relationships when we need to recharge, reignite and re-invent. To take a step back to gain clarity, access, connections, collaboration, and resources for new ways of thinking and doing.
Since time and relationships are the most valuable resource we have in our lifetime, it makes sense to be certain that we are making the best and most accurate decision before pulling the trigger.
PERSPECTIVE brings fresh eyes to the situation.
I consistently witness those who attend our live events discovering and experiencing their own ah ha moments. And it’s amazing to look into the crowd and see the hope and resolve to fix what needs fixing as they become the change in their lives.
Quitting or stopping maybe a valid and real option… or perhaps you just need a new perspective. Maybe your frustration and lack of desired results has deeper roots. It could be based on something BIGGER – overwhelm, lack of skills or knowledge, self-worth, self-doubt, a misstep, a perceived failure, or disappointing past results.
If you’re still not sure, then go deeper and LISTEN to your internal dialogue! Is it telling you to stop because of fear, even though you know you are meant to do this work? Perhaps you need to recharge and invest in personal and professional development?
Course Correct and stand up for you, for change, and for your dreams. Let go of what could have, should have and would have been, and take the reins for what will be!
We have all had times when we just want to quit and say “enough” in life. At times that dream seems unattainable, that relationship seems too rocky, and in business it feels like you are hitting your head against the wall. I know. I have been there too – in that place where it seems nothing you do will make it better or different.
Before you quit, say enough is enough, or otherwise throw in the towel do everything you can. Leave nothing on the table. Better to go out a hot mess in a blaze of glory, then to play it safe. I don’t say this lightly. Regret happens when you stop short of GREATNESS!
When you know you have left no stone unturned, then and only then should you ceremoniously throw in the towel! Because only then can you say you tried EVERYTHING!
If right now at this moment you are at a crossroads and unsure if you should quit, then perhaps it’s time to invest in YOU. Access what you need to so that you can make a well-informed and valid decision.
Ultimately should you stay or should you go will depend on the outcome of your thorough analysis, the current and future opportunity costs, and the reason why.
Why? because YOU, your dreams, your relationships, and your business are worth that.
Don’t sell yourself short.
